Dr. Priya Nethala is a physician specializing in gastroenterology, who completed her gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She earned her Doctor of Medicine from Central Michigan University College of Medicine after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science with a concentration in Neuroscience and a minor in Biochemistry from the College of William and Mary.
Dr. Nethala completed her internal medicine internship and residency at UAB, is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is board-eligible in gastroenterology.
Her clinical interests are esophageal disorders including reflux, eosinophilic esophagitis, Barrett’s esophagus, and esophageal motility. Her prior research also focuses on colonoscopy surveillance adherence, small bowel disorders, and barriers to celiac disease diagnosis in rural populations. Her work has been recognized with multiple awards and presented at major national conferences, including Digestive Disease Week and the American College of Gastroenterology. In 2024, she received a “Poster of Distinction” award for her work on celiac disease diagnostic challenges.
In addition to her academic accomplishments, Dr. Nethala has contributed to medical education and wellness at UAB through roles such as co-editor of the Internal Medicine Intern Survival Guide and as a member of the Division of Gastroenterology/Hepatology Wellness Committee.
